Verlan Stephens, Managing Partner
Verlan is an expert in data compilation and skilled in data analysis. He specializes in helping companies use data to better understand the specific traits and nuances around education and use that information to drive decision-making that produces successful results in education markets.
He honed these highly technical skills over more than 30 years spent compiling, managing and analyzing large information databases. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with an emphasis in Computer Science from Boise State University, Verlan went on to hold senior management positions, including: Director of Information Technology and Database Compilation for Quality Education Data; Vice President of Development of CodeCorrect; and Director of Information Technology for the Arabian Horse Registry of America. He also served as Director of Information Systems at Health Decisions International and Director of Operations and Product Management at IHS Health Information.
In his current role, Verlan is a Managing Partner at Agile Education Marketing and one of its founders. His passion and expertise in data trending and market intelligence has led him to spearhead Agile’s data compilation efforts.
Bob O'Dell, Managing Partner
Bob, a founder and managing partner at Agile Education Marketing, has extensive managerial experience in the analysis, development and implementation of software and systems, including training personnel in a wide variety of information products and devising re-engineering processes that cut across organizational silos. Market-driven, customer-focused and with an understanding of the bottom line, Bob works closely with sales, staff and clients to identify the key issues in growing and re-engineering the organization.
Prior to founding Agile, Bob received a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He also served in leadership positions at a number of education organizations: T.H.E. Journal, Market Data Retrieval (MDR), McGraw-Hill Education, Mindscape, Scott Foresman Electronic Publishing, and Texas Instruments, and Quality Education Data (QED). While at QED, Bob was responsible for architecting and developing a new sales order flow and fulfillment program as well as managing a new line of marketing database services.
Over the years, Bob has been recognized for his innovative thinking and leadership, receiving awards from both McGraw-Hill and Dun & Bradstreet. Clients find him instrumental when it comes to implementing technical systems, developing new products and growing the expertise and abilities of their staff.
Elizabeth Acton-Trimaloff, Director of Marketing
Elizabeth brings more than 20 years of marketing experience to the Agile team, particularly in the areas of education and lifecycle marketing. Throughout her career, she has worked closely with marketing teams and operations to create programs that leverage strategic marketing channels — social, digital and traditional — to drive repeatable, reliable performance.
Elizabeth has developed an expertise in designing programs that leverage technological innovation and high-impact messaging, from CRM systems to marketing automation to old-fashioned data analysis. She helped build an award-winning online community for education company, Pearson North America; ran lead generation for West Coast home-builder Trilogy; spearheaded product development and PR for early digital education solution NovaNET; and navigated the transition from landline to cell phones for Baby Bell Qwest, running its premier customer marketing program.
Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Arizona and certifications in ADKAR Change Management and Executive Leadership from the Center for Creative Leadership. She is a founding member of the Phoenix Marketing Cartel and serves on the boards for the Phoenix One Foundation and the Girls in Tech Phoenix Chapter.
Scott Brooks, Vice President, Corporate Development
Over the course of his more than 25-year career, Scott has developed an extensive knowledge of sales, marketing, and business and corporate development in the areas of consulting, business intelligence, cloud computing, SaaS, IT outsourcing, and data.
Scott has held a number of leadership positions within organizations focused primarily on marketing data software and information technologies. Formerly Vice President of Corporate Business Development at Critigen and then Managing Director at Afferion, his career began in the database products area within IBM Labs.
He also has experience building software and services organizations from the ground up. As an entrepreneur, Scott launched and sold a successful software company to IBM, built and ran software and services practices and served as a key member of leadership for several tech data companies. Scott earned his degree in Computer and Information Sciences and Support from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario.
Dave Cohen, General Manager
Dave joined the Agile team in 2012 as General Manager. In that role, he is charged with corporate governance and strategy, along with oversight of Agile's finance, operations, legal, and human resources departments.
Dave studied at Florida State University where he earned a Masters of Business Administration. His experience includes a tenure with International Capital Partners, a Connecticut-based venture capital firm. Serving in numerous capacities, his primary focus was providing turnaround management and executing exit initiatives within their distressed portfolio companies.
Prior to Agile, Dave worked for Scholastic, Inc. shortly after its acquisition of Quality Education Data (QED). There, he was tasked with providing financial, operational and strategic guidance and leadership to restore QED’s financial health, culminating in the successful sale to Dun and Bradstreet.
Derek Dallmann, Vice President of Sales
Derek has extensive experience within education that he brings to his position as Vice President of Sales at Agile Education Marketing. Derek’s career in education began at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Education and History. He went on to receive his Master of Business Administration from Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa. His professional career spans 20 years working with and building high-performing sales teams and providing strategic consultation to companies wanting to connect with early childhood, K-12 and higher education institutions and personnel. He has held sales and leadership positions with Quality Education Data (QED), Scholastic, and Market Data Retrieval (MDR). He joined Agile Education Marketing in 2016.
In his current role, Derek leads Agile’s sales team in helping organizations build brand awareness within the education community and engage with educators through multi-channel marketing that generates leads and drive conversions. He approaches every client individually, working with them to develop a strategy that satisfies their specific marketing and sales objectives while also serving the educators they’re trying to reach.
Ryan Fox, Director of Digital Product Development
Over the course of two decades, Ryan has helped organizations grow their businesses online through early adoption of emerging technologies, from exploring new opportunities in the first days of the Internet and social media to leveraging more sophisticated digital technology, such as CRM, CMS and eCommerce platforms. He brings that extensive experience to his role in digital product strategy and development at Agile.
Ryan’s innovative thinking and leadership has helped transform how organizations market and sell their products and services, moving them from relying on tradeshow and word-of-mouth advertising to utilizing cutting-edge digital and interactive marketing products to boost their bottom line. Prior to Agile, Ryan served as Director of Digital Marketing at DistributionNOW and Director of Marketing and Product Launch Manager for National Oilwell Varco.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Computer Information Systems as well as a Master of Business Administration and Digital Media Management, both from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. Ryan applies his expertise, experience and ingenuity to keep Agile on the cutting edge of digital product development so that we, in turn, can do the same for our customers.
Lana Henningsen, Director of Client Success and Information Services
Lana applies her more than 20 years of experience within education and her degree in Computer Science Engineering to make meaning out of client and educator data and spearhead Agile’s software development efforts. She leads a team of experts who consult on messaging and selling strategies and develop reporting and analytics tools tailored to the unique business goals of our clients.
Her career includes roles as the Vice President of Engineering, leading projects for major players in education, from Holt, Rinehart and Winston to Prentice Hall. She also served as a senior project manager on projects for AOL, Scholastic, Putnam Investments, and state agencies. From this experience, Lana has gained extensive technical knowledge and has honed her ability to communicate across functional groups to build internal relationships and foster collaboration across the organization, always with a focus on innovation, business acumen and excellent project management.
